Piercing Info - Procedure

There is no "Industry Standard" for piercing and there are as many different ways to perform a piercing as there are body piercers. All piercers use different techniques and tend to stick to a method that they feel comfortable with.  Some piercings need to be done freehand, some need a special technique that involves right angled piercing and some are done using tissue holding forceps. The methods I use have been found to cause as little damage as possible in order that your piercing can heal quickly.
This description is a simplified version of my piercing procedure and there may be differences between this procedure and the procedure I actually use, depending on the piercing and your anatomy. It is intended merely as a guide. The procedure I use will be explained to you in full before I do your piercing.
A medical questionnaire and standard disclaimer must be completed before the piercing takes place. At this stage I will verbally go through the aftercare and procedure in great detail. You will also receive aftercare details on paper too, allowing you to read at your own leisure at home.
The Skin to be pierced will be cleaned first using an isopropyl alcohol wipe to remove make-up etc. The skin will then be marked with a special antiseptic called "Gentian Violet" using a cocktail stick as a pen.
Once the marks are checked for accuracy your skin will usually be held very lightly in a pair of custom made clamps. The sensation from the clamps is like being held lightly between finger and thumb. Some piercings are made without the use of clamps.
The piercing is made using a sterilised intravenous cannula, which is a very sharp needle surrounded by a plastic sleeve, similar to those used in hospitals for drips. The needle is removed after the piercing is made and thrown into a medical sharps bin. This leaves the cannula inserted through the piercing. This cannula is then used to guide the jewellery through the piercing. The cannula is then thrown into a medical sharps bin for incineration.
A free check up appointment is included with every procedure. You will be required to come back into the studio one week later. This will allow me to check your piercing and to cover any questions you may have.

IMPORTANT NOTICE
A PIERCING IS A WOUND AND HAS TO GO THROUGH A PERIOD OF HEALING TO BECOME AN ESTABLISHED PIERCING. DURING THIS TIME OF HEALING SOME PEOPLE MAY EXPERIENCE PROBLEMS SUCH AS SKIN TAGS, CARTILAGE BLISTERS, INFECTIONS ETC. ALL SUCH PROBLEMS ARE COMMON AND CAN BE DEALT WITH BY A GOOD, FULLY TRAINED, EXPERIENCED BODY PIERCER.

BECAUSE OF THE RISE OF “BODY PIERCING” STUDIOS  OPENING UP WITHOUT FULL, OR ANY TRAINING I AM SEEING MORE AND MORE PEOPLE COMING TO ME FOR HELP AND ADVICE.
